Week 9 of Portrait Art Class
I tried the Mitsubishi Uni Nano Dia coloured lead pencil (0.7mm) this week and I absolutely loved it! I had not used mechanical pencils much previously because I did not like the way graphite smudges and becomes a bit muddy and I would get really annoyed with the snapping of the lead! But these pencil leads were really a game changer! They come in different colours (all pretty vibrant), my favourites being the two blues, the purple and the pink (at this point I might as well say they’re all my favourite) I like that they do not really snap much and I am quite heavy handed. Apparently, the diamond technology in the lead means that it is a lot stronger that the regular mechanical pencil lead and well it shows!
I paired this pencil with a paper blending stump (a tortillon) whilst shading and it really did make all the difference! I loved the outcome, it gave quite a fun, ethereal feeling to my portraits.
